Some people are so talented that they change the world and made it turn upside down. I am so glad to share with you a fantastic story of rolling bridge by Thomas Heatherwick. This unusual creation is a part of the Grand Union Canal at Paddington Basin, London. The following bridge consists of eight special sections. They are connected to each other with the help of hydraulic pistons.
The bridge is a perfect solution of creating an elegant, nice and really useful construction when you are lack of space. The bridge has many unusual positions. For example, most people claim it looks amazing and so funny both while completely curled up and while in a vertical position. The concept of building is very interesting - the almost-40-foot-long remote-controlled hydraulic bridge was designed to be transformable, easy to use and not noticeable at the first sight.
It was the deliberate decision to make the bridge very ordinary and simple. And the contrast is so unbelievable: the bridge is graceful and so damn quick. Frankly speaking, the bridge was designed to allow people to reach the far side and to allow boats to get into an inlet.
As a rule, the bridge is curled every Friday at noon.
